European Weightlifting Championships 2003

Evgeny Chigichev (RUS): “This was my first appearance in this category and my first appearance in general after a year’s absence due to injury. I never think about winning a competition, but only concentrating on lifting the weights I can. I will not change to a different category for the Athens Olympic Games. I have been very satisfied by the hospitality and the organisation of the competition and I think Greece is ready to host the 2004 Olympic Games.”

Ashot Danyelyan (ARM): “I am very satisfied with the hospitality, the competition hall and the whole organisation of these Championships, and I congratulate the organizers of the event. My goal was not this event; instead, I aim for the 2004 Olympics, so I’m generally satisfied with my result.”

Damyan Damyanov (BUL): “I was ready to win at this competition, but I had an injury on one of my fingers and removed the cast only ten days ago. The weights that were lifted today were not many. I still had enough power to lift 247.5 kg., but I was troubled by my injury.”
